At Akron he served as the QB, RB and WR coach. While there he earned a master's degree in education. He then went on to Miami (OH) to coach the QBs until taking a job at Ohio State where he was the quarterbacks coach for 3 seasons in the early 1980s. From there he went on to be head coach at Youngstown State where in his 15 seasons he won 4 National Championships and was twice a runner-up.

In 1973, the National Collegiate Athletics Association rescinded its traditional band on not allowing freshmen to play on the varsity level of Division I football. The airplane that crashed and killed the entire Marshall football was a major reason for lifting the ban on freshmen being able to play at the varsity.

Brigham Young University (BYU) is located in Provo, UT. BYU is a member of the the Mountain West Conference. The longtime coach was Lavell Edwards and the Heisman Trophy winner was QB Ty Detmer. Clemson won the National Championship in 1981 with coach Danny Ford. Washington won a share of the National Title in with coach Don James. They shared the crown that year with the University of Miami (FL). The University of Washington is located in Seattle. Bowling Green is located in Bowling Green, Ohio (yes, Ohio, not Bowling Green, Kentucky, where they produce Corvettes).

UVA first played Wake Forest in the year of 1889. UVA won that game 46-4. UVA first played Duke in 1890 and UNC in 1892. But UVA has played UNC more than they have played any other school in football including Virginia Tech. The UVA and Maryland series didn't start until 1919 and now UMD along with Va. Tech is UVA's biggest rival in the ACC.
